| Dr. Werner Vogel, 1892-1936, was the manager of the German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai from 1923 until the time of his death. The subject of his doctorate in 1922 was The Historical Basis of Chinese Criminal Law. In addition to his activities as an attorney, he regularly published articles about China’s development in German dailies and technical magazines. He thus early on gained a reputation as an excellent China-hand. During a home-stay in Europe he fell ill with Scarlet fever and died within a few days in a hospital in Budapest. |
